Boston College Alumni Stadium
New Professional-Grade Artificial Turf Athletic Fields / Chestnut Hill, MA
Boston College’s Alumni Stadium is the home field for the team’s Division I NCAA men’s football team, hosting 44,500 excited fans at each game. In the off-season, the stadium is enclosed by an inflatable dome structure so that soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball, golf, and many other sports can practice all year around.
The Alumni Stadium football field is a high performance athletic surface, comparable to that found at any professional sports franchise. Tolerances for the field’s design and construction were extremely intense. Because of the stadium’s continual use as an indoor and outdoor athletics asset, the schedule for construction was equally intense. Our team had only a few weeks worth of access between Commencement and late Summer Division I practices. Worse still is the stadium’s location, at the lowest point of the main campus – Boston College suffers under excessive flooding during certain rain events and over 400,000 gallons of runoff heads toward Alumni Stadium each time. On the backs of this aggressive, high performance athletic surface project, our firm devised innovative underground stormwater management elements to help address the school’s massive flooding problems.
Completed in 2012, Boston College celebrated their new stateof- the-art multi-purpose facility to wide acclaim internally and within BC’s new league, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
