Nyungwe National Park

The Uwinka Visitor’s Center is located deep within the heart of Nyungwe National Park’s 24,000 acre wildlife and animal preserve.

The heavy annual rainfall and the steeply sloping mountainous terrain that surrounds portions of the Visitor’s Center had eroded the foundations of several key facilities.

WDG provided site inspection and engineering assessment of the deterioration, quickly and accurately identifying the root causes of the deficiencies. Previous inspections performed locally had incorrectly diagnosed the problem. By correcting the engineering assessment, WDG partnered with local engineers in Rwanda, providing on-site training and mentoring as WDG performed the necessary engineering inspection, assessment, recording, and reporting process. A well written and comprehensive report was submitted.

Our firm prepared construction bid documents for all repairs and helped manage the procurement and construction contractor, again mentoring local engineers during the on-site construction phase. Additional water harvesting and potable water storage systems were also included in WDG’s design.
